Y'know what I do when I have the weight of the world on my shoulders? I shrug.

We've reached a "taking superheroes seriously" age in cinema. With the last couple of X-Men movies, the Dark Knight, Iron Man, Watchmen and The Incredible Hulk,  superhero movies are finally given more depth and are targeted to a much wider audience, being usually moody and very intelligent.

I'm a superhero movie fan myself, probably closing off my top 3 favorite movie genres - the other two being drama and documentary - and I can geek out really bad at times over upcoming movies (like Iron Man 2!). On that note, I'd like to admit that one of my favorite superheroes is Captain America.

I mean, at first I was intrigued by how the idea was conceptualized, as Captain America was invented during WWII to give people of the United States a sense of patriotism, american heroism, and a sense of victory. He was often despicted fighting the axis of evil and protecting the American nation. Now, however, Captain American has grown into a very interesting role, where he kinda satires a lot of America's problems through his adventures, almost working like a social and political commentary.

What gets me very excited is that he will finally be getting his own movie, with the same kind of treatment Batman, Iron Man, and the Hulk got, and he will open up a new saga called "The Avengers." No, I'm not talking about the shitty 1998 film of the same name.

The First Avenger: Captain American is slated to start shooting in June, and there have a series of names being thrown in the mix, ranging from supporting actors to directors. Joe Johnston is set to direct the piece, which worries me a bit. He has made good movies (October Skies and The Rocketeer for example), average movies (The Wolfman, Jumanji), and just complete shit (Hidalgo, The Pagemaster), but I'll put my faith that he'll do this movie justice. Who knows, one day he'll join the SuperHero league of great directors (which at this point include Zack Snyder, Chris Nolan, Jon Favreau, Bryan Siner and Louis Leterrier).

Hugo Weaving has just been cast to take on the role of the Red Skull, and I have to say, he is one of Hollywood's most talented actors. Remember Agent Smith? or V? Elrond? the voice of Megatron? He is simply put the best one for the role of Johann Schmidt.

But, with the principal shooting starting in less than 4 months, no Captain America has been announced yet. There have been a series of rumors, and a lot of confirmation and denial (For the love of everything that is sacred, do not give John Krasinski this role). So in honor of the upcoming film, I decided to make a list of people who would make a good Captain America due to the ever increasing anticipation, and since its bound to be announced soon let's see if anyone of these guys will make it. This is not a list of rumors, simply a list of people I'D like to see in this role.

Chris Evans

He was a good Human Torch, and he was incredible in sci-fi films like Push and Sunshine. He has the looks and is a very talented actor. Potential: Likely

Credits:
Fantastic 4 (1 + 2)
Sunshine
Push

Mike Vogel

He was in J.J. Abram's Cloverfield, and although he didn't beat the villain then, he can certainly kick some ass as Captain America. He has the wholesome American look and is probably a strong contender. Potential: Very Likely

Credits:
Cloverfield
Havoc

Sam Worthington

Hollywood's new it boy has shown that he can sell movies without being really well known. He's got the acting chops to lead this movie, but it's very unlikely, due to him not being American in the first place. Potential: Unlikely

Credits:
Terminator: Salvation
Avatar

James mcAvoy

He was super awesome during the second half of Wanted and has shown that he can play characters with special powers in a very badass, but down to earth, manner. Potential: Unlikely

Credits:
Wanted
Atonement

Paul Walker

So he hasn't done a whole bunch of good movies, but he did some pretty nice action scenes in the Fast and Furious series. Potential: Likely

Credits:
The Fast and The Furious
Running Scared
Joy Ride

There can always be the fact that they won't be happy with any of the big names and go for someone completely unknown, but I'd believe that with the first two films in The Avenger series being led by A-listers (Edward Norton as The Hulk, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man), and making good money, with good critic reception they wouldn't want to fuck with the formula. Though, Thor is slated to star Chris Hemsworth, who is hasn't done a whole lot.

I guess we wait and see.
