You can no more win a war than you can win an earthquake.
George Mitchell has recently posted on Huffington Post about Nuclear War and how it is something Americans are unwilling to give up on. One of our biggest worries since nuclear force has been discovered has become one of the biggest stones between worldwide peace.... and complete war devastation.
Mitchell rounds up an interesting post commenting on how after over 60 years since the Hiroshima bombs, The States still stand strong on their reasoning for striking first, even though it has been "mutually" agreed by wmd nation holders that "no-first-use" policy.
The fact remains that I don't think they're will ever be a point when a nation would be willing to give up their wmds without having everyone else do it too. Living in this day and age without that kind of "back-up" plan can be very dangerous.
And let's suppose even if everyone miraculously decided to get rid of wmds worldwide, they're would always be doubt and presumption between countries, not knowing if your neighbour actually did as promised.
We're stuck in a dilemma. We either dispose of them by usage, or we let them sit intact to keep diplomacy.
We're fucked.
